Patch Checklist
Girl Scout Home

England and the other wonderful sections of the United Kingdom offer many opportunities for Girl Scouts who either live in these areas or who visit. There are numerous historical, educational, and natural sites to visit and explore. These patches were designed to encourage girls to explore the United Kingdom. A tip for you: many of the sites listed in the London area are well known to the Black Cab drivers. In fact, some sites are on their licensing test. You may want to ask a Black Cab driver to drive you to some of the places. Many are convenient to local Underground Tube or to rail stations. Some are on London Tourist Walks, conducted by several companies.

How Recognition May Be Worn: Five patches are Girl Initiated Patch Activity Programs. Patches may only be completed by girls and not by adult Girl Scouts. They are not an official part of the uniform but are patches, which may be worn on the back of the sash or vest of Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scouts. Patches may also be placed on a jacket, hat, patch blanket, or patch shirt or sweatshirt. Adults may wear the Neighborhood Trading Patch.

Virtual Patches : We do not have a program for virtual patches. Our patches must be earned during a visit to the United Kingdom. As a alternative to those who are not in England, our Neighborhood Trading patch is available to anyone.

  • May be completed individually or as a Troop.
  • Virtual patches - see above

Transportation
Travel Juliette Low History Literature Neighborhood

London Transportation Patch: East, West, North, and South, this bright patch commemorates the world famous London Black Cab, the Underground Tube System, the inter-city British Rail System, and the wonderful red London Buses. We ran out of room and could not include the Thames Ferries, the Eurostar Train plus the English Channel ferries and hydrofoils, all interesting and different forms of transportation that visitors and local residents use to travel in, to, and from this great city.

Travel the British Isles Patch: On a background of a gently rolling United Kingdom flag float the beautiful green isles of England, Scotland, Wales, the Channel Islands, Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland, and the Jersey Isles.

Juliette Low First Troop Scotland: Before Juliette Low returned to the United States and organized Girl Scouts USA, she traveled to Scotland and formed the first troop of Girl Guides there. The patch is highlighted by a bright Scottish tartan plaid border commemorating these first girls, whose weaving skills earned money for them to buy food for their families. It also features a bright red candle and candlestick, with a wisp of smoke that spells "1st Troop Scotland", plus the bright green and purple emblem of Scotland, the thistle.

American History in London and the United Kingdom: The history of the United States and United Kingdom have long been intertwined and have stamped an impact on the world. A jeweled crown is superimposed on a flowing American flag in a postage stamp frame.

Children's English Literature and Nursery Rhymes patch: The wonder of imagination, the imagination we all find in books and stories, audio's and films is captured by a very British Pixie or Brownie enthralled in the magic of words, dreaming a rainbow of ideas and thoughts and wishes....

Central London Neighborhood Girl Scouts trading patch: A golden sky, lighting the dome of St. Pauls Cathedral, Big Ben's clock tower glowing in the light, while Nelson's Column at Trafalgar Square and the ramparts of the Tower of London fade into the dusk of evening.
